Report Summary

Samaritans Initiative for Sustainable Impact (SI4SI) conducted a one-day sensitization program at Gari Itatash Primary School to raise awareness on the critical role teachers play in protecting children from harm. The session aimed to strengthen teachers’ capacity to identify, prevent, and respond to various forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation within the school environment.

The sensitization engaged 15 teachers and reached 100 pupils (60 girls and 40 boys) through interactive discussions, storytelling, and role play activities. These activities emphasized respect, empathy, and child safety while fostering a supportive learning atmosphere.

Teachers were reminded of their responsibilities as caregivers and role models. They were guided on practical ways to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils.

Pupils were also educated on their rights to safety, dignity, and education. They were encouraged to speak up and report any form of abuse, violence, or neglect affecting them or their peers.

The session concluded with a group pledge by teachers to uphold child protection principles in their daily teaching practice.

Outcomes of the Sensitization

  • Increased teachers’ understanding of child protection roles and responsibilities.
  • Enhanced pupil awareness of their rights and available reporting mechanisms.
  • Strengthened collaboration between teachers and school authorities on safeguarding measures.
